Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar saw an incredibly shakey development life, going through numerous developers, and yet still comming out on top as one of the best MMORPG's on the market.  The polish, the lore, the gameplay all combine to make a single unique "Tolkien" experience that shouldn't be missed.

As far as fantasy realms go, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better universe than the origional, Lord of the Rings.  The lore is so rich, and expansive in nature that the Turbine has a plethora of room to stretch it's legs and create new unexplored content in the Tolkien universe.  However, Turbine has created a familiar world that immerses long time fans while dazzeling newcommers.

The graphics for the game are gorgeous.  from the waving fields of the Shire with blue skies and rainbows-- to the fire and brimstone that Mordor holds for the bravest adventurers.  The requirements are some-what modest and allow a good amount of room for tweaking to get just the right settings for your own rig.  The art design really holds true to universe, bringing to life what you've been imagining in your head since you were young.

Although the gameplay doesn't present that much new, inventive style--it sticks with what works while adding a good amount of polish.  Some of the new RPG elements really are appreciated such as the "deed system."   This allows players take on quests that yeild not only some cash for your character, but stat boosts that come in the form of traits.  Only a few particular traits can be equipped at one time, so a bit of thought must go into what you'd like and what may benefit you.  The PvP consists of PvMP (player vs monster player) which allows anyone over the level of 10 to take on the persona of a maxed level monster character and do battle in the massive PVP zone known as the Ettenmoores.  You can build your monster character through quests or just raw PvP, its up to you.  And if you choose to stay with the free people of middle earth, you can enter the Ettenmoores at the level of 40 where you can try your hand at slaying player created orcs and goblins.

LOTRO: SOA is the most complete Tolkien package you can expect in the next decade...easily.  Even if you're not a fan, this one is highly recommended.  The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is intense and the RPG elements add a good amount of depth.  With the regular updates, Turbine has shown they mean business in making a quality product and intend to be in the future of MMORPG's.
